„Candidatus Jordarchaeum“ (GTDB: Jordiarchaeumcite-ref-gtdb-2-0[2]) und „Candidatus Freyarchaeum“ sind Kandidaten-Gattungen der Asgard-Archaeen (Phylum Promethearchaeota bzw. Die Genome Taxonomy Database (GTDB) liatet zu diesen Gattungen noch weitere Stämme (MAGs), wobei sie die Gattung „Ca. Freyarchaeum“ mit „Ca. Jordarchaeum“ (dort Jordiachaeum genannt) synonymisiert. Die Familie „Ca. Freyarchaeaceae“ (dort Freyrarchaeaceae genannt) verbleibt aber mit einer zusätzlichen Metagenomik-Gattung (provisorische Bezeichnung DTBI01).cite-ref-gtdb-2-2[2] Mit einher geht eine abweichende Aufteilung der Stämme, Spezies und Gattungen auf die beiden Familien.cite-ref-10[A. 1]cite-ref-gtdb-2-3[2]
Die beide Familien enthaltenden höheren Taxa (Ordnung bis Klasse) sind in der GTDB synonymisiert. Als Phylum ist dort Asgardarchaeota angegeben (heute offiziell Promethearchaeota, monotypisch im Reich Promethearchaeati), d. h. übereinstimmend die Asgard-Archaeen.cite-ref-gtdb-2-4[2]

In der GTDB hat die Gattung Jord(i)archaeum (Fam. Jord(i)archaeaceae) einige Mitglieder an die Gattung DTBI01 (Fam. Frey(r)archaeaceae) abgegeben, andererseits aber die Gattung Freyarchaeum (von dieser Familie) aufgenommen.

Beschreibung
Aus dem Genom abgeleitete Rückschlüsse auf den Stoffwechsel (Metabolismus) lassen vermuten, dass beiden Klassen „Ca. Jordarchaeia“ und „Ca. Sifarchaeia“ hetero-organotrophe Acetogene (Säurebildner) darstellen, die auch die Fähigkeit besitzen, Methylgruppen wie methylierte Amine zu verwerten, wobei Acetat das wahrscheinliche Endprodukt in den in diesen Gruppen im Lauf ihrer Evolution verbliebenen Überresten des Kern-Stoffwechsele ihrer methanogene n Vorfahren ist. Sun et al. (2021) nahmen an, dass dieser abgeleitete Modus der Energieerhaltung durch Erweiterungen des genetischen Codes, d. h. durch die Umcodierung von Stoppcodons, verbessert wurde, wodurch die Einbindung der seltenen 21. und 22. Aminosäuren Selenocystein (Sec) bei „Ca. Jordarchaeia“ bzw. Pyrrolysin (Pyl) bei „Ca. Sifarchaeia“ ermöglicht wird. Sec-Recodierung wurde nicht nur in „Ca. Jordarchaeia“, sondern auch in anderen Klassen der Asgard-Archaeen gefunden, von denen angenommen wird, dass sie von erhöhten katalytischen Aktivitäten Sec-haltiger Enzyme profitieren.cite-ref-sun2021-11-2[10]
Etymologie
Der neulateinische Gattungsname Jordiarchaeum bzw. Jordarchaeum ist benannt nach der Göttin der Erde Jörd (oder Jord) der nordischen Mythologie, die am meist mit Liebe und Fruchtbarkeit in Verbindung gebracht wird; der Suffix stammt von altgriechisch ἀρχαῖος archaîos, deutsch ‚archaisch‘, latinisiert zu archaeum ‚Archaeon‘; der Name bezeichnet also das „Archaeon der Freya“.cite-ref-lpsn-j-1-10[1]
